halloween questions and answers

Q. 1. What is Halloween about?

A. 1.  Well back then Halloween was believed to be when the spirit world was able to Cross over to the of the living and the living used to put masks on to scare away the evil spirits.
          Now its all about dressing up and going to houses and getting candy.

Q. 2. Were did the carving of the pumpkins originate from?

A. 2. The carving of the pumpkins originated from when they used to carve faces into turnips and placed them in windows to keep the evil spirits away....that changed because pumpkins where easier to carve into but I think they still sometime used the turnips.

Q. 3. Is Halloween the real name or was it called something else?

A. 3. Halloween was called All-Hallows-day way back then in the 16th century(the day before All-Hallows-day was called All-Hallows-Even.  Up through the early 20th century, the spelling "Hallowe'en" was frequently used, eliding the "v" and shortening the word.

Q. 4.  Where did trick-or-treating come from?

A. 4. Trick-or-treating most likely has many different stories of where it came from but here is one that I found that sounds pretty realistic.  It is with this custom the concept of the fairies came to be incorporated as people used to go door to door begging for treats. Failure to supply the treats would usually result in practical jokes being visited on the owner of the house.

Q. 5. Who created Halloween?

A. 5. Halloween was created by a group of Germans, after the holocaust, because it was meant to be a type of disguise.
